Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has issued a new Public Notice to save mobile phones users for un-wanted SMSes.
The Public Notice by PTA read as:
In an effort to protect telecom consumers’ rights, PTA has promulgated ‘Protection from Spam, Un-solicited, Fraudulent and Obnoxious Communication Regulations 2009′. The transmission of bulk messages to any person for commercial purpose is subject to express permission of recipient. The bulk messages can only be sent by individuals/companies duly authorized and registered in this respect with PTA for providing such services and holding dedicated authorized short code.
PTA has taken notice that certain individuals/marketing companies are unauthorizedly involved in the transmission of messages to subscribers without express permission of recipients. These individuals companies are hereby strictly warned to refrain from such practices. Legal action may be initiated against such individuals as per “The Pakistan Telecommunication (Reorganization) Act 1996′ and the regulations issued there under from time to time.
Cellular mobile customers are also requested to provide information about messages by forward sender’s number along with the SMS content at 9000 short code ont he receipt of telemarketing messages in the following format:
‘Sender Mobile Number<space>Message you received’ shirts offer 25% discount.
For obnoxious communication, customers may block/unblock caller number from their handsets by opting for operator services through the following codes: for More
